COVID-19 Update: With the current pandemic, we have limited in-person contact with clients to intake sessions only. All follow up sessions (individual, group) are provided through video telehealth services. "As an active member of the LGBTQ community, I know the importance of having a provider who is genuine, empathic, warm, supportive, and understanding of the issues others in the community face. As a non-binary provider, I am also aware of specific challenges in finding appropriate gender services, and work to reduce gatekeeping for those seeking transition related care." Dr. Avi provides individual, group, and family therapy for all individuals 13+ including those in the individual's support system. Dr. Avi also provides gender transition evaluations and referrals for hormones and surgery which follow WPATH standards of care in a way that minimizes gatekeeping and focuses on affirmation and support. Dr. Avi is Post-Doctoral Resident and currently runs the Gender and Sexuality Services Program at Oasis Psychological Services, a private practice (not affiliated with Oasis Hospital). They earned their Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology from the Arizona School of Professional Psychology at Argosy University. Dr. Avi is a early career member of WPATH and the American Psychological Association’s Society of Sexual Orientation & Gender Identity (Division 44). in 2015, they published their dissertation on discrediting the use of the MMPI-2-RF as a tool in the assessment of Trans and Gender Nonconforming individuals, and helped to create an affirming professional questionnaire assessment for trans and enby transition related services. During their predoctoral clinical internship at the University of Colorado - Boulder, Dr. Avi helped to create an interdisciplinary treatment team for transgender concerns, consisting of licensed psychologists, medical providers, and psychiatric providers; as well as setting treatment guidelines and standards for clinicians and trainees working with Trans and Non-Binary clientele. Dr. Avi both attends and provides trainings for mental health professionals in the Southwest on best practices in working with transgender, nonbinary, and sexual minority individuals.
